Chapter Fourteen
Russ kept his hand on Alexandriaâs back as they neared the table full of his friends. Heâd known that Cal and Teresa were going to be here tonight. And of course, Clay and Marianne. But he hadnât realized that what seemed like every one of their whole group of friends would all be out together.
He wasnât worried for himself. Sure, the guys would no doubt raise an eyebrow here and there, and heâd probably have to face some questions next time he saw them. But that didnât bother him; heâd be happy to tell them whatever they wanted to know. What he wasnât sure about was how Alexandria, he smiled to himself â Ria, would feel faced with such a big group.
He decided one thing as they approached the group; he wouldnât land her in it like with Tino and announce her full name. Some of his friends were real wine connoisseurs and he didnât want her to have to face that again.
Of course, when they reached the table, Teresa was the first to greet them. She jumped to her feet and came to them with a big smile on her face. âThere you are. I was getting ready to call you if you didnât show.â
He rolled his eyes at her as he bent to kiss her cheek. âTerry.â
She laughed. âRuss.â
Alexandria had stepped back a little way while Teresa greeted him. He slipped his arm around her waist and drew her forward. âRia, Iâd like you to meet Teresa â Terry. Sheâs one of my oldest friends. We went to kindergarten together. Sheâs also Terry, Calâs fiancée.â He winked at her as he added that last part, remembering how sheâd thought that Terry was Calâs male fiancé. âTerry, this is Ria.â
Teresaâs eyebrows shot up, but whatever caused her surprise, she recovered quickly. âItâs very nice to meet you.â
âYou, too.â Ria held her hand out to shake, but Teresa laughed and pulled her into a hug.
âWe may as well start as we mean to go on, and I have a feeling that you and I are going to be friends. You must be special to have this guy â¦â Russ was glad that she stopped before she blurted out whatever it was sheâd been about to say, and even more glad when Nina came to join them with a big smile on her face.
âItâs good to see you out, Russ.â Nina smiled at him expectantly, and he had to laugh as he turned back to Ria.
âRia, this is Nina. Another one of my oldest friends and one of the kindergarten gang. Nina, meet Ria.â
Just like Teresa had, Nina leaned in for a hug. âItâs lovely to meet you.â She shot a quick glance at Russ. âI believe you met Manny at the gym.â
Russ pursed his lips as Manny came to join them and slid his arm around Ninaâs waist. At least he had the good grace to give Ria an apologetic smile as he shook hands with her. âItâs good to see you again.
